What is SEO?

SEO is one of those buzzwords or acronyms that gets thrown around a lot. Chances are you’ve heard it once (or a few hundred times), but what exactly is it? SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization. It’s a bag of special little tricks that help get you to the top of search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.). There’s a large science behind it because only a handful of people know how search engines really work. A lot of trial and error goes into bringing your content to the top.

For those of us that don’t work for the top companies in the world that already have a giant reputation – this includes implementing some of these proven tricks to gain more visibility and customers through our webpages.

A few starter items to start down the path of SEO include:

  • Identifying long term keywords you want to rank for.
  • Making quality attention grabbing content.
  • Compiling an SEO Analysis of your market.
  • Ongoing analysis of what works for you and doesn’t.

Beginning down the path of search engine optimization greatly helps, but it’s a never ending journey.

The more you put into it, the more you get out of it. The most important thing to remember and the biggest thing we want you to take out of this page is – quality over quantity. If your page ranks very well for a word or phrase, but has no relevance and leaves your reader with an empty feeling – did that view even matter?
